Meet our new chairman: Jonas Lindström

We have a new captain at the helm in the boardroom! Jonas Lindström has stepped in as chairman of the board and we took the opportunity to ask a few questions about the man behind the title.
So, who are you really when you're not in the boardroom?
I am 47 years old and live in Mariastaden here in Helsingborg with my partner and our large family of six people. Sports and club life have always been my main focus. Earlier in life, handball dominated together with golf. Today, it is family, golf and cooking that are my great passions. It doesn't matter if it is a simple everyday pasta for the whole family or a perfect raw steak for me and my partner - cooking is a nice relaxation.
You and Vasatorp go back a long way, don't you?
It's lifelong. My dad brought me here back in 1986, so I've literally grown up at the club. I've made the whole journey from kid and junior to competing professionally. Today Vasatorp is my 'happy place' and it's extra fun that both my partner and son are equally dedicated players. In other words, there's a lot of golf talk at the dinner table at home!
Did you have to think long when the question of the chairmanship role came up?
It didn't take long to think about it. After 2,5 years on the board, I know how much competence and passion there is in this group. To step forward as chairman now feels both natural and inspiring. I have been part of Vasatorp's journey to what it is today, and now I want to be part of driving the next chapter forward.
What do you think is Vasatorp's greatest strength today?
It's the whole thing and the unique environment. We have set the bar extremely high and people expect the highest quality when they visit us – whether it's the condition of the courses, the service at the reception, the range in the shop or the food in the restaurant. We have it all, and our challenge is to continue to deliver at that level every day.
What visions do you have for the future?
We work according to a clear strategy that we set last fall, where we selected some strategic focus areas.
Junior & Training: We should have an environment where everyone feels comfortable, regardless of whether you are aiming for the elite or playing for fun. Width and forward should develop side by side.
The Courses & Properties: We are investing long-term in the quality of the courses. The biggest and most exciting step right now is our new multi-purpose building that we are finally starting to build – it will create enormous added value and become a new gathering point for us members.
Community and member benefits: We want the club to be a place where you genuinely want to spend your time, even when you're not out on the court.
We also have a challenge ahead of us. More golf is being played on our courses than ever before, our challenge and focus is to maintain the high quality we have today on the courses despite the increased pressure.
Is there anything that is particularly close to your heart?
Junior activities are close to my heart. I 'lived my best life' as a junior here at Vasatorp with all the camps, trips and friends. I want today's young people to experience exactly the same thing. Not everyone's path forward is to become a professional, but we want everyone to have a lifelong love for the sport and the club.
Favorite course at Vasatorp?
Classic is pure nostalgia for me – it's 'where it all began'. But I love the challenge and modern golf at TC.
Can you describe Vasatorp in three words?
Quality, development and community.
Last question: what are you most looking forward to?
To continue developing the club together with all the committed members, employees and the gang on the board. I really look forward to being out at the club and hearing your thoughts – it is in the conversation with you members that we get the best ideas. Vasatorp is fantastic, but I know we can raise ourselves to another level!
Welcome Jonas! 💚
